The Benefits of a Fotona Laser Services

At Advanced Endodontics, we specialize in root canal treatments. With five locations in Central Florida, our offices are convenient and unique in that we’re always looking for ways to improve your experience with us. One of those methods is by offering Fotona laser services to perform various endodontic treatments.

The overall goal with using these types of lasers is that the laser itself can clean the root canal more effectively than traditional methods. What made this possible is the laser’s ability to produce shockwaves to drive disinfectant solutions deeper into the dentin where traditional methods can come short. That’s just the start of what this type of technological advance in endodontics can do for you. Let’s look at some additional benefits of Fotona laser services, and how it can make your experience getting a root canal a whole lot easier.

7 Benefits of Using Fotona Lasers in Endodontics

Single Visit Root Canal Treatment

The traditional root canal treatment, even though it has a high success rate, can fall short on roots that are either really infected or have many small canals. In most of these cases, the clinician would choose to place medication inside the tooth for a few weeks and have the patient come back for a second appointment to ensure adequate disinfection. With the Fotona laser, an additional five to six minutes of activation inside the canal can achieve better results in a short amount of time. This can save patients another trip back to the dental office.

Preserves More Tooth Structure

In order to maximize the shockwave that the laser produces, the clinician needs to minimize the canal preparation. The reduced root end preparation essentially “traps” the shockwave. This reduction in tooth structure removal leaves a stronger tooth and the tooth then has a better chance of standing up to future stress and trauma.

Treats Hard and Soft Tissue

Using the Fotona laser, our endodontic specialists can treat both hard and soft tissues. That includes services like frenectomy, biopsies, and extractions.

Minimal to No Bleeding During Surgery

One of the most important benefits of using lasers during endodontic surgery is there is minimal to no bleeding, like with traditional incisions. The lasers are gentle on the gum tissue so that excessive bleeding is not a problem. This is because the laser is able to ablate rather than cut through the tissue. This produces less trauma and faster healing.

Targets Bacteria With Better Accuracy

The laser targets the area containing harmful bacteria with better accuracy. It’s able to sterilize the area which is another benefit, reducing the potential for reinfection. The antimicrobial action of this technology is a huge advantage over a traditional root canal where it’s harder to eradicate all the bacteria that are present in the complex tooth structure.

Pain Reduction With Less Needle Injection

Fotona laser has the ability in most cases to significantly reduce or totally numb pain during treatment. In some cases, needles may not even be necessary.

Less Discomfort After the Procedure

Finally, you’ll notice that in endodontics surgery with a laser, there is less discomfort after the procedure. The wounds of a root canal will heal faster as well. That means recovery time is shorter, and you’ll be able to go back to your normal activities right away. Less downtime is definitely a big plus with Fotona lasers.
